I don't really talk to people much. I like to keep to myself. I don't have very many friends, but the ones I do have are always there for me. I'm typing this Monday, February 25th, because I got home and suddenly realized it was due at midnight, so Im just gonna spout random facts about myself that are super irrevelant. My biggest hobby is medieval weapon collecting. I currently own 7 swords, 5 knives, a spear, a mace, a battle axe, 2 finger blades/armor, a claw, a bow and some arrows. My favorite sword is a replica spanish knight sword, with the engraving "Colada del Cid" (The fall of the Lord). It has a lengthy blade, and a beautiful flowing hilt that also serves as a crossguard. It also has a huge pommel that I can see my own reflection in. My second hobby is martial arts, currently Tae Kwon Do. Ive been taking for about a year and half, and Im about halfway to my black belt. After that, I plan on taking either Brazilian Jiu Jutsu or Boxing (And yes, Ive had to break boards before. People too, but thats a different story) I also enjoy parkour or any kind of climbing. I refuse to watch a movie if its not Horror or starring Johnny Depp. Thats about all there is to me that may be unique. Like everyone else in the world, I play video games some and watch TV. I enjoy fast food. Etc...
Reader Response for February 26th, 2013
Im gonna start off honestly. I didnt read the passage. I justify this, however, by saying that I have no need to, because I've read and reread the story of creation about 25 times (literally). I wanna say Im very amazed at the way the whole universe is made. Scientists say that if anything in this galaxy was off by any hundredth of a degree, everything would be messed up. Which I take to mean we all go crashing into the sun, but thats not important. As to the story of the first sin and Adam and Eve, I have only one question. Why was Eve talking to A SNAKE in the first place? Is she insane, or did Satan/Serpent speak to here telepathically, through her mind? Again, irrelevant info I suppose. Then Adam, seeing that she just completely disobeyed God, says "Oh I guess Ill disobey God too because a woman told me to." I'll never understand why either of them did the things they did. It's like God put the tree there on purpose as a test of faith, and they failed. People always say that "If God knew, why did he do it?" My best explanation is that he's constantly testing our morals and faith. He could easily make us all super faithful to him and only him, but then are we really human? Or machines? God gives us a choice to do what we want, because we're his one ultimate creation. A likeness of himself. The tree of knowledge of good and evil was a test to Adam and Eve, the first people, to see how humans worked. Almost like a test run. Thats why when they messed up, they were banished. My question, instead of the typical one mentioned above, is why did he even create us? Why create Earth? Why create animals, night and day, land and sea? Hopefully I'll get a response from someone and get this cleared up for me.
Lindsey I agree with you 100%. I have read this a thousand times (literally) haha but i have never really taken the time to sit down and disect it word for word and look at it from a literal or even a science aspect. I don't and probably will also never understand the things that Adam and Eve did. But I don't believe in my heart that Adam knew what the Lord had already told Eve not to do. It's like she was supposed to be the good messenger for Adam until she crossed paths with the serpent and he decieved her. The part in your response where you talk about "If God knoew, why did he do it?" This all goes back to his master plan of his true followers, faith , and people listening to the devil. I love you similie/metaphor not really sure lol about us as humans being really humans or machines. It makes sense because we kinda are like machines. The Lord knows our next moves and controls our next moves by putting the thoughts in our heads and seeing how we react to situations he puts us in. I honestly can not answer your last question though. I enjoyed reading your response Lindsey!!! -Marla Thomas
Reader Response to The Marionette on March 12th, 2013
Well after fighting with my internet and then with these text tools, I'm finally able to respond to what I need to. I have a hard time understanding the explanation of the center of gravity outside the physics perspective. In Physics, the center of gravity is simply where an object has a majority of its weight focused. So I have a hard time understanding when he says something about the elbow and such. As for the rest of the story, it was quite easy to understand. The young man symbolizes youthful innocence, which he doesnt even realize he has until he sees his motion in the mirror. The second he realizes it and tries to force the natural motion, human flaws make it clumsy and comical. As for the bear, I completely enjoyed the story. I fenced for a little while, and understood the feeling of trying to hit a target that was better than you by an infinite amount. He might as well be fencing the air, with no target and no ability to hit the opponent. However, I have difficulty believing the bear deflected a small, thin rapier with huge claws. But I guess thats why its a story, right? I brought it home for my aunt to read, and she said it was the dumbest thing she ever read, and that it made no sense. She also said the same about The Cave. Who wouldve known that most people are incapable of deeper thinking outside of what they see. That brings us to the Observer Effect, but I wont get into all that lovely stuff. I cant wait to read your response Marla, and sorry for being so late with my reflection.
Lindsey now here we go. haha you know im not some physics genius haha. I dont really get all the physics connections. But i trust you. It was also very easy for me to understnad but also easy for me to criticize because i love dance and i dont like how it compares a human full of emotions to a plastic doll. I also have no knowledge about fencing and dont find it very interesting but i see where i could easily be clumsy which i coud connect that with the human flaw of being clumsy when working with the puppets. I would be like the bear. i should might as well be fencing the air with no target and absolutely no ability at all haha. and hey i agree with your aunt!!! completely. i also feel its dumb and doesnt make much sense. And dont be so cruel lol i am one of those people that is incapable of thinking outside of what i see. Thanks lindsey for your response finally haha. I like how blunt you are throughout them. -Marla Thomas
Reader Response to Book 1 on March 19th, 2013
So Im not really keeping up with this thing too well. I just kinda forget about it I supppose. I dont even know what Im supposed to be responding to, so I assume book one of Paradise Lost. It confused me, mostly because of the missing letters and wording. I understood it a little more when I read the argument thing at the top, then read the actual paper. Ive watched enough horror movies to understand the greater and lesser demons, and the hierarchy of Hells ranks. However, this almost makes Satan sound human. Like a military general instead of a fallen angel. He and Beelzebub discuss the situation as if they were human generals discussing battle tactics. Also, the whole idea of Earth, Heaven, and Hell coming from Chaos confuses me. This proposes the idea that we are physically equal to the Diving Beings, and that we can physically combat them on our own. I do not believe this at all. It would take an immense amount of power to even equal the Divine, much less overpower them. Earth is more of a tug of war game between God and Satan. One towards evil, and the other towards good. However, we can decide the outcome by our actions and where we pledge our allegiance. I guess this is all Im gonna say about Book 1, since its all I understood. Sorry Marla for failing on my part of this. Ill try to keep up now!
Reader Response to Book 2 on March 21st, 2013
I think this one is due today. Im not sure. But here it goes. Book two is very interesting, again because they discuss this as if they are human. I couldnt stop laughing mentally as Mr. Alexander explained that Satan "raped" Chaos and then didnt remember it, and the result was Sin. I'm getting the book numbers confused too. Its kinda difficult to respond to these, seeing as how none of my computers have Microsoft Word or Viewer, and therefore I cant view them or download them. I have to find them on the internet. But thats not what this response is supposed to be about. Instead I'll talk about Hell and its hierarchy (at least from the source Ive used). At the top is the first hierarchy, headed by three of the most powerful fallen angels, are the Seraphim, Beelzebub, Leviathan, and Asmodeus. Im not gonna bother to list their areas of sin. Below the Seraphim, but still in the first Hierarchy, are the Cherubim, headed by Balberith. Next, and the weakest of the first hierarchy are the Thrones, headed by Astaroth, Verine, Gressil, and Sonneillon. I wont bother to delve any deeper than that, as theres multiple hierarchies, each with different ranks. Also, regarding which plan I feel, if I was Satan, I would choose to attack Heaven with. I would do none of the suggested. No full on attacks, no sneaking about Earth alone, no waiting. I would sneak each demon, slowly, one by one onto Earth, and make it the home of the demons. Just a personal opinion. Im curious to see what people say about this. Cant wait for next class! Hey Lindsey I hope that this one is due by tonight because it is also the one i responded to. But i disagree. I dont know i just couldnt get into book 2 as much as i did book 1. but i do agree on how hilarious Mr Alexanders analogy to chaos being raped by Satan and creating sin. But hey It worked and it really stuck in my head about the whole situation. I like the research you did on this. I feel like in the first hierarchy the 3 characters were at a GREAT level of sin. to me it feels almost like and unreachable level of sin because unless i read it wrong they were followers of Satan. How many total hierarchies were listed? Honestly it kinda creeps me out when you thought of your plan if you were Satan because i feel like that is what Satan tried to do but failed throughout all his plans. But i like that you put the personal thought into it. Thanks for being on top of it this week Lindsey see ya in class!!! -Marla Thomas
