Hey y'all! Ya'll already know my name is Marla.Im 17 and a Senior. Everyone says they are ready for graduation, I'm not. I love it here!!!! I like to hunt and have bonfires and my favorite shoes are my boots but don't hold that against me.Ya'll know by now that I tell it how it is.I'm blunt and don't really care if it hurts your feelings. it may sound mean but thats just how I deal with things. If you don't want to hear the truth then don't ask me haha.My family(including my pup) and friends are my everything. I'm going to The College of Brockport in New York to be a member of the gymnastics team and I plan on majoring in [[#|physical therapy]] once i get there. I have been a gymnastics since i could walk at 9 months. My two favorite colors are yellow and green thanks to Lacee'. I;m addicted to oreos and I love eating junk food. I see it as hey i can eat what I want now while I do sports and stay skinny. I talk to everyone and don't have a certain "clique" I stick to. I'm easy going, chill, and very outgoing. Been through a lot this year, my Lord and Jesus Christ have tore me down and brought me back up again. I am so blessed and have so many supporters in my life. Brook is one of my best friends and I love her very very very much!:)
RESPONSE to GENESIS : 1-3 February 29, 2013
It says in verse 2 of chapter 1 that the earth was formless and empy but yet how is it empty if there is water? All things on earth are created and named in a way that god wanted to and said so. this means the horse we see and know it as could really be a bunny. Chapter 1 keeps repeating that God saw all these things as good and they might not really be. We will never know because todays society is so based on what "GOD" says and i am a follower of that as well. But what if it's all wrong? Then what have we been learning and following all these years? We were created in his image. I don't know if imagined us to be perfect or not but I feel his imagination was used when he created every little detail of each and every one of us.
I believe chapter 2 is where we get the though of how Sunday is the 7th day, the Sabath day, and a day of rest throughout many churches. "God blessed to seventh day and made it holy." The Lord created trees, plants, and other types of vegetaion knowing there would be no form of man to take care of and nourish them. He then created man and the form of rivers on the 7th day to maintain every form of vegetation life. i believe the creation of man and women, Adam and Eve, should be been created before animals and land were so that the other creatures could be tended to correctly from the start by Adam and Eve.
If it was true that if you ate the fruit you would know good and evil why would God not allow us to eat it. I thought the whole point of life was to learn not to sin and if we dont know good from evil we will never be able to avoid sin. You would think the Lord would have sent Eve down and told her she could eat that particular fruit. But then it goes back to listening and trusting your Lord which is a whole other subject I won't get into. Later on it talks about how the serpent decieved the woman and for that the Lord punished him and said, " you will crawl on your belly and eat dust all the days of your life!" In todays society the Lord punishes us by making a point and putting certain obstacles and threats in our lifes but I think his punishment to the serpent was a little harsh. Response to Response: March 6th, 2013 Hmm.. Im not sure where to start on this one. I [[#|agree]] with pretty much everything you said. Even though Sunday was the blessed day (Or at least thats what we think) I dont think it should be forced upon people to be a day of rest. Some things cant rest, because if it did, everything would go insane on Sunday. As for the punishment of the serpent, I agree that it was harsh. First off because, if God set us up to fail anyways, how was Satan hurting anything by speeding up the process? Im not saying I support Satan or anything, but in a way he was doing what God had planned all along. Also, and I keep re reading it to make sure I see it right, but I believe when it talks about God making the heavens and sky, it doesnt follow the typical pattern of "And God saw it was good". Maybe they felt it was to repetitive to put EVERY time. But Im not sure. Im probably just overanalyzing, like I usually do. Im also rambling, like I usually do. I have no clue how many words this is either. I look forward to discussion in class next time!
Response to the Marrionette : March 7, 2013
When i think about a puppet, 1) i dont see a dancer and 2) I deffinitely dont see grace. Kleist said that the way the pupperts are moved is by their center of gravity and once that is moved," the limbs describe curves". And apparently those are the moves that ressemble "dance." To me dance is a sport that comes from the heart. It is something you can put your feelings and emotions into without being made fun of and when Kleist describes the puppets as "dancers" it was weird because he followed it up with that they would have no effection which is an emotion. Thats why i don't see the puppets as "dancers" because all they are is is plastic. They dont live and dont have hearts. IDK what any of this really means because it is all kind of confusing to me. I really like the part that says "misconceptions like this are unavoidable now that we've eaten of the tree of knowledge, but Paradise is locked and bolted." When this story talks about human spirit and how there can never be an error if its non existent kinda touched my heart. We were put here to make mistakes and thats why we exist. I bring this story back to what i know and base it on the Lord. Which is where the section that refers back to Adam and Eve comes in when it was asked if they had to eat form the tree of knowledge in order to return to the state of innocence? Which is wrong. It would be a sin for them to eat from the tree of knowledge especially if i am correct it sounds like they know the story of Adam and Eve in this story so they know that when Adam and Eve ate from it they were told not to which resulted in them sinnig against the Lord. Response to Response: March 12th, 2013 I agree with you about a puppet not being a dancer, because of a lack of emotion. Could you imagine if every sport was played with nonhuman players? It would be boring. Like NASCAR. All you really see is a car going around in circles. But this isnt about dissing other sports. I feel that a team of devoted players to a sport could easily wipe out a team of non emotional robots. Its like the sports saying goes "Any body can win in any given game" If an underdog team comes in with heart to play against a top team who thinks this is gonna be easy so they half play, they'll probably end up losing. When he got into the Physics of the matter, I kinda stopped listening. I didnt understand a word of it. I dont really have much to say about Adam and Eve, because Im kinda tired of hearing about it every day in class. Its a good debate, but the things I hear are kinda repetitive. Ive used that word in both my responses. Im gonna end my response here now, and I look forward to whatever we do next class.
Response to The Cave: March 13, 2013
I like this reading a lot compared to the others. It honestly makes me think like a kid again. The people living in a cave underround reminds me of a simple thought of animals being locked up in a cage at the zoo. To me it kinda sucks that the humans rarely see light. I love the sun! I dont know what i would do without the sunlight. It's almost a would unimaginable. To me its not fair to be locked up, as prisoners, where you can barely see yourself much less the people to each side of you. Makes me realize that the life most Americans have aren't anywhere as awful as we think and feel they are. How do we even really know we are reading about simple human beings? This could be talking animals... They dont know what each other or even themselves look like. When we talked about how the humans thought the person's shadow was the actual person... that kind of freaked me out. How did they learn everything they knew if it states they dont really have much knowledge. It seems to me like these are new born babies who know nothing and just basing everything they see smell and hear off of what they know.
Response to Book 1: March 13, 2013
Well just like always I'm lost once again. It never fails. I like reading and being told whats going on because I am not a deep thinker and I dont like to look into reading for one i suck at reading and i hate to do it. But until we finish talking about it in class i am just going to have to go with what i feel is going on. God has all the power and Satan knows it and doesn't like it so he is trying to steal the light from God. Satan knows it is so impossible to be anywhere near as good as God or much less better than God but he keeps pushing and trying to achieve it. I dont get why Satan even wants to bother with God. He is the almighty and I don't think Satan is that stupid but hey maybe he is. In the beginning Satan wants to achieve revenge against God who already knows Satans thoughts about getting revenge in the first place and also that he was gonna be in the garden. I love how the author describes hell, a place for failing angels, the conditions about it and how it is something that should unwanted by everyone. I think just like everyday life Satan and his partner are creating opportunities for peaople to screw up because he wants to attract them toward him instead of God. After this I am pretty much lost. So i cant wait for class tomorrow. I hope we have a good discussion.
Response to Response: March 19th, 2013 Id like to start this off by apologizing greatly to both my partner, Marla, and Mr. Alexander. I havent been keeping up with this like I should be, and its taking away from all of our learning experience. Ill try to keep up from now on. As to Marla's response, I agree 100%. This is all so confusing to understand until Mr. Alexander points out what he means and what it relates to. I dont understand why he tries either, Satan that is. Makes you wonder that, just maybe, Satan has the same power as God. Why else would he try? Im not sure. Im not deep minded enough for this. Thats why I like books that just give the info, and mean what the words on the page mean. However, Im never gonna understand why God let us fall like that. If he was the all knowing, all protecting God, why did he let us sin and disobey? Perhaps, as mentioned before, Satan in just as powerful. Maybe God DIDNT know he was gonna be there. You'll probably be offended by my blunt theories, but its how I feel. Both are all knowing. Both are all powerful. Therefore, one could possible overcome the other for a second. Think of all the people out there that are happy to be going to Hell, and that love Satan. If God didnt want that, why doesnt he stop them? If he's so strong, why didnt he strike down Satan instantly and save us all the pain? Who knows? I apologize again for failing at these things.
RESPONSE TO BOOK 2 : March 21, 2013
I honestly didnt like reading Book 2. It was not as interesting as Book 1. I guess the big picture of this book is that no matter what really was gonna happen Satan already had his mind made up whether someone volunteered him or he had to volunteer himself. I feel like Milton bases his characters off of typical stereotypes and ideas from the bible. Satan wants to rebell but he doesnt want the people to envy him. But then if he didnt want people to envy him then why was he basically bragging the whole time and showing his "mightyness?" It doesnt make sense to me. He (Satan) is doing nothing but scheming to figure ut a way to gain followers to go against God when he knows that God will win and God will be he almighty. In todays terms i would say throughout book 2 Satan is shady and does a lot of work behind the scenes. The demons want to persuade the people on Belial views but he is like a politician who stands up and talks about things using bigs word to draw people in but confusing them and make them think that they actually know what they are talking about. Response to Response: March 23rd, 2013 I'd have to agree with you on Book 2 not being as interesting as Book 1. Although I cant really explain why it wasnt as interesting. I also agree that Milton is basing his characters off of stereotypes of the world. No one truly knows the logic behind Satans actions and decisions except God and Satan himself. I find it amusing that you describe Satan as "shady". He's the High Demon of Hell, shady would be an understatement. As to answer the questions you asked me in your response, there are Three Hierarchies. And strangely enough, Belial is in the Third. Now why would a Third Hierarchy demon be discussing plans with First Hierachy demons? I dont know. Its funny how some people didnt even know that Hell and Heaven have levels and ranks and different positions. You also said that the three powerful demons (Beelzebub, Asmodeus, and Leviathan) probably had the most sin. Im not sure how they are ranked. Maybe by the amount of support and involvement they gave to Satan when he tried to strike down God. Another interesting bit of information Ive learned. The name "Satan" means Truth in Sanskrit. When Satan tempted Eve to eat the fruit, did it not reveal the TRUTH of the world? Also, Satan in Hebrew means enemies. Does this make the Hebrews enemies of truth? It all gets pretty twisted. So Ill let your mind work on it. See ya next class!
RESPONSE TO BOOKS 9-12: March 28,2013 @ 9:05a.m.
I feel like Eve was just kind of getting frustrated with Adam in book 9 and just wanted to be left alone because she became to feel independent like she could do the work on her own. Eve ended up eating from the tree and Adam found out and he got mad. To me its like Adam felt the tree was like a poisoning curse so if Eve did he had to do it so he could be with her. So then Adam eats from the tree. Gods punishment is pretty much the summary of book 11. Its when Eve and Adam are basically thrown out of "Paradise." Although God knew that Adam and Eve did wrong its like deep down Adam and Eve knew somehow that they did wrong. Although the "bolder hand" is actually the downfall. I love book 12 because it talks about how the Angels are escorting Adam and Eve asway from the Garden. And normally when someone is escorted they are famous or important. And it just shows the strength of God when he promises that Adam and Eves seed or soon to be chiled will help mankind carry on and continue to grown. Its really powerful when I read that they wept and cried leaving the garden and I would have done the same thing. How awful and stupid would you feel if you were placed in paradise and after disobeying God one time you got screwed and thrown out. Its your own fault but i guess that goes back to the thoughts of God knows what we are going to do and obviously this was part of his plan.
