Hey I'm Lacey. I have been dancing for 12 years now. USC Upstate has accepted me to participate in their Communications program this fall. I want to be a news reporter after college. I have been dating Michael (the guy in the picture) for two years now. I addicted to coffee. My favorite color is purple. I like to eat healthy. Jaile says I'm a camel because I love water. I am a very blunt person so don't take it the wrong way if I sound mean. If I offend you that is your own fault. I work at Taco Bell in Powdersville, but about to work at Ultra Tan. During the week I tutor two Wren students that transfered from India.
February 26, 2013 Reading of Genisis 1-3:
I really enjoyed reading this because anything that comes from the Bible is very influential. It has a lot of power and it is the primary reason for my existence. I love to refresh my memory on my Savior Jesus Christ and it makes me so thankful for everything that I have/am. I like reading about how God created our world because it makes me realize how powerful He is and how very tiny humans are in comparison to Him. With any scripture, sometimes it can be a little difficult to read and understand exactly the meaning behind what it meant. When you break each sentence and word apart it helps me comprehend what is written. In Astronomy class, we learn that our solar system was created by the Big Bang Theory. Earth's location is relatively perfect for sustaining life. This is how there are plants, humans, water, etc.. But the Bible says that God is our creator. He was the one that created Earth, our sun and moon; our night and day. This is such a controversy among astronomers and Biblical people. Reading about the way God created Earth is a lot different than in Astronomy class. It was really neat to read the Biblical perspective, especially since we are learning about this subject in Astronomy. It gives me the two different perspectives and allows me to see how each point of view COULD be genuine. (I believe that God is our creator but I can also see from a factual stand point that the Big Bang Theory could have happened). ... Or maybe God created the Big Bang Theory. All you can really do is pick one you believe in, regardless of what others believe. It's all about faith and believing that God is your Savior. To me, I like learning about different cultures and how people view different things, and in some aspects, the Big Bang Theory could be a totally new religion/belief in itself. However, the literature itself was a little difficult to read. Having experience and being taught the Bible growing up, it wasn't that big of a deal. If I was reading this for the first time, I would have to sit and read this multiple times to be able to understand what was really happening.
I really like the way you brought up the controversy of creation, that was something I dint think to add in my response. Also, faith is a strong word, in every context. It is often tied directly to others, such as Hope, for without faith what hope do we have for ourselves? I liked how you incorporated your beliefs into your writing instead of being as analytical as I was. It's really nice to be able to look at something in more than one way, you know?

Puppet Response:
I do not like this reading at all. Little puppets on strings are not better than dancers. It is that plain and simple. Anyone who would write such a thing, even if it was not meant in a literal way, has a problem. Also, anyone who is going to bad mouth my opinion and say that it "is dumb because I am not reading into it" needs to keep their comments to themselves. I am entitled to my own opinion. Hmmm, okay so anyways, I understand what the author is trying to convey about how they can move differently than a human can, but to say they are better? This person is comparing something that does not have a soul, to a living breathing creature. Umm, Hello!? This would be the same thing if I were to compare a rock to a tiger. They are totally different! Maybe a Marinette is the best of all types of puppets, but they are definately not better than dancers themselves. And that is all I want to comment about this reading because that was the only part that caught my eye.
While I do understand why you said this and respect you for it, I think you may have fallen into a sort of trap.... After reading your response I realized that no matter whether you were angry at the author's idea or intrigued by it, you still wanted to understand his reasoning. I think your kind of response may have been what the author had wanted when he was writing this. Also I think that the marionette as a symbol was meant to be used more as a type of vehicle or assistant to help the author get to his true message. With a reading like this you really have to learn how to think in a way that is not your own, in a loose sense, kind of. I hope you get what I'm trying to say here.

Response to the Cave Reading:
I enjoyed this reading the most out of all the readings we have read in class so far. The idea of humans living underground in a cave makes me think of animals being locked up in a cage. As a human that is exposed to the sun on a regular basis, I have a hard time grasping what these humans went through with very little light. This makes my mind imagine a world without the sun, or very little sun. These humans were obviously prisoners, but to live a life where you are chained to where you cannot look at the person next to you, or even look at your own self, blows my mind. It makes me appreciate everything that I have and I am thankful. These humans do not know what a human looks like, so how are they humans? Maybe we are reading about lions or some other creature??? In class we talked about how they thought the person's shadow was the actual person. That made me think... How do they even know what a shadow is? They don't have any knowledge otherwise. When it talks about the wall with the "floating" vessels... Again, how do they know what "floating" is? In the text it said that they could talk and that was pretty much it, other than blinking and breathing I would assume, but how do they know how to talk? What kind of language do they attempt to speak? If they can see the sky and the stars and the heavens, how do they know that is what it is? It is like a child being told that a dog is a dog. They only know a dog is a dog because they were told it was so. How do these prisoners know what the sky is? That could be the only thing they do know, which I can understand why they think the sun is God, but how do they know about the subject of God? "Better to be a poor servant of a poor master," I can sort of see how this plays a part in this, but I really wish the reading would reach some kind of conclusion.

I really enjoyed reading your response this time Lacey, you mentioned that the humans in the cave would not know what a human is and how the writing from Plato almost contradicts this fact in a way, I thought that this was incredibly insightful and it was also something that had not occurred to me previously. After considering this fact and then thinking back to the wording in the paper I realized that this contradiction was incredibly apparent in the wording throughout the entire paper. As for the paper not reaching a conclusion, I don't think that was entirely correct. I do think the paper reached a conclusion in its own way, although you may think it roundabout. I believe that the conclusion to the paper was that after you realize the honest and complete truth about something, you would rather do anything than go back to that ignorant state of not
knowing or being decieved by a sort of illusion.
Response to Book II:
I have to admit, I did not read this before class like we were supposed to, so I was really lost during discussion; however, reading this like two minutes ago, I find it a little easier to understand. Book I confused me beyond belief, but since we picked apart every (most every) detail in class, I have a different way of reading these considering they are very difficult. Talking about Satan and his thoughts are just strait up weird. It is really interesting to see what he thinks, and how he thinks, but in general it is really creepy and totally messed up. I guess that is why he is "Satan". Anyways, Satan shows manipulative qualities in order to unify all the demons. With Satan being bad, anything he does or thinks is bad. The message of this is to show that manipulation is bad, which it clearly is. Though we may not be satanic, it teaches us right from wrong in a way. It is really hard to type what I am thinking but it makes sense to me (sorry Alexis if this is really hard to understand - I can't find the right words). Satan pretty much set this all up in order to make it seem like he did not want to go to Earth, but yet he volunteered to? What I got from all of that is that Satan made a HUGE deal about how much of a sacrifice it would be to go to Earth and how terrible it would be and all the demons agreed with him and said that it would take someone with a lot of courage and personal strength to go and do this. Satan played it up and then he volunteered to go, like that was his plan. Hey, this is kind of like in And Then There Were None where Wargrave (actual murderer) plays everyone into thinking that it was someone else when he knew all along that he was leading them in the wrong direction so that they would not suspect him of killing. This is totally insane!!! Satan was trying to persuade the demons by agreeing with him that it would not be all that ideal and then Satan said "oh yeah, I will go and do it". That is like setting himself up to be considered a "hero". WHAT IN THE WORLD?! This is where I become very thankful that I believe in what is genuinely good and bad and am not easily manipulated into some bogus.

I agree with you that talking about and trying to understand Lucifer's thoughts is something different and a little strange, but instead of his thoughts making him seem satanic, I think it reminds me of the way humans think (I'm not exactly sure if that wasn't what you were thinking, but I am trying). I think that was what Milton was trying to do, to show Lucifer to be flawed in a way that is similar to humans because it would make it easier to sympathize with him that way. Also I read your response to mine before writing this and I would like to say that there is a reason that all of the Fallen have such strange names. If you research each of the names of the Fallen you will see that they each mean something unique. Belial for example is Hebrew for worthless, and there is a verse in the bible, which I can no longer recall the location of, that says " the sons of Eli were sons of Belial" aka. the sons of Eli were worthless men. There are meanings such as this for all of the names of the Fallen, and quite a few of them were used in various parts of the bible.
Response to the end of Milton (finally!! - no offense Mr. Alexander):
AWH! I honestly think this was a great ending to Milton's writing. Adam kind of frustrated me in the beginning because of how he treated Eve. I am a very strongly opinionated person and I do not agree with force - man over a woman or a woman over a man. It just is not right in the slightest. I understand Adam's reasoning behind controling Eve, but that still does not make it right; not then and not now. I sort of had a resentful feeling towards Adam. I am the type of girl that is very free-willed and has the determination and ambition to get what I want (within reason of course). I can relate to Eve in this sense. No man is going to control me. BUT then Adam seems to come to realization that Eve should be treated with respect and he should try to make her happy just as she should respect Adam and try to make him happy. Adam and Eve are learning how to have a somewhat healthy relationship together. I think it is such a beautiful thing. Overall, this could definitely be turned into a chick flick romance movie. I would definitely watch it as long as the characters did not talk like Milton writes. It is extremely hard to understand and follow simply because it is not written how poeple talk (well some might but no one in our class does - thank goodness). I think it is funny how Adam goes from trying to control Eve, to trying to romance her and make her happy. Ha, the first time I read it, I thought Milton was trying to convey that Adam was bipolar or something. That is totally ridiculous and not what was taking place, but its funny how people sometimes comprehend things when exposed to something completely new. When Adam and Eve become “equals” it almost seems as if it is the realization of who they are as individuals and who they are together as a couple. At the very end when it says that they are stepping slowly hand in hand THROUGH Eden, in a solitude fashion... Holy cow, that means they are in Eden... That means that Earth is Eden. Eden is the garden. Oh my gosh Milton needs to continue this but in writing that I can actually comprehend without analyzing each word, looking behind the words on the paper because that takes up too much time, and half the time I STILL don't get it! Thus my hypothesis of Adam being bipolar!
partner response I think that this may be the first time that I wholeheartedly agree with you on something. I also did not agree with Adams way of treating Eve in the beginning and thought it to be wrong on so many levels. And then for Adam to realize his mistake and try so hard to make amends all of a sudden was quite amusing. There were times I almost thought it sweet in a way. You are pretty much entirely correct when you say that this part of the book could be turned into a romance movie as long as the wording was changed appropriately. As for earth being Eden, well, that is the way Milton makes it seem but that just doesnt sound right to me for some reason...

I really like how you described some of the events in Book Two by Milton. Some of the things you described in your response really stood out to me as well. I too also found that Book Two was easier to read and was very interesting. I liked that you mentioned the quote "...turning our tortures into horrid arms against the torturer." I agree with you when you say it was a bold statement that really stands out. I think the strong words within this statement really made it mean something and fit into this book really well. I liked that quote in particular because it gave me the picture i imagined in the first place. Whenever i think of demons i think of them using strong hateful words that would really tear someone down if they were on the other side of that conversation. This statement really fit in with the image of "demons" to me because of words such as "torture" and "horrid". Does that make sense? haha. Anyways, going along with what you said next, i also think it is weird that Molach and Satan think God is a torturer. I think this is weird because Satan knows God is NOT a torturer because Satan has seen Gods works done when he (satan) was in heaven with God before he was cast out. I loved when you said that people might blame god for sending them to Hell, and therefore thinking of him as the bad guy. I never thought of it that way, but i really like the way you worded it. I also really liked when you talked about how ever since the beginning of sin, people have been blaming each other. I really think this fits in well with the world today and it is a problem that still has yet to fade away.
May 3, 2013. Make up for No. 5 Response.

It was weird for me to go into senior year. I did not really think about it at all my junior year. Once I got here though it was crazy. Most people say that your junior year is the hardest year but I think that my senior year has been much harder. I have had half of the amount of classes my senior year as I had my junior year but more than twice the work in all of these classes. I suppose it is because of all of the college or dual enrollment courses that I took. However, I am glad that I took these courses because I learned a lot, I feel that I now have a better understanding of what college is going to be like, and I am going to be going into college with college credits. Now that I am within one month from graduation, I feel very nervous but also really excited. I am more than ready to get out of high school simply because of the lack of responsibility that students are given. I understand why it is this way but I disagree with it. I am nervous though about college because it is a new experience that I have never had before. I look forward to graduation and getting my diploma and I am very excited to see what life has in store for me next. I am glad that I had a chance to do this online homework thing because I think that college will have a lot of stuff online and this was my first opportunity to get that experience. So I thank Mr. Alexander for giving me this opportunity.

Well..its been such a long time since we have read paradise lost and since i have done my last response. I'm going to try and recall the ideas and feelings i had on these last chapters of Paradise lost. I remember feeling confused on all the emotion that was put into this piece. However i really liked this works structure and how it was wrote not only to entertain the audience..but to make them think on levels that were really in depth. Basically what i got from this writing was that Adam felt obligated to follow Eve into the fall. Eve wasn't sorry for the loss either, which i found strange. Also, God just stood back and watched. I would think that this conflict would be put in this story to make the audience realize the "free will" of the world. What I want to know is why Eve didn't seem remorseful. If she had just lost something so great why didn't she seem to care? I also think it's uncommon that Adam was almost not playing the role of the "man" in the relationship. All in all i think it was a great conclusion to all we have read/learned in class and it all tied together so well in the end.

Interesting that you compare Hitler to Satan. I would've have thought about it at the time. Both are trying to have more power than they already had and it ultimately lead to their downfalls. They obviously felt a certain way about their action. Satan sometimes had thoughts that he did the wrong thing and Hitler ended up committing suicide. Also I think it's funny how they both lose. Germany not only loses their leader, they lose WWII, making it their second World War loss. The angels are punished with Hell. Forever. And Ever. I guess that's what happens when you try to fight God. I feel like both Hitler and the Nazis and Satan and the angels were fighting a battle they really wanted to win, believed they could win, but was impossible for them to win. When Satan and the angels rebelled the probably thought they were right for whatever reason because otherwise they would not have rebelled in the first place. But I wonder if it was worth it? Did they really want hell when they chose to rebel? Hitler wanted to prove that Germany was all big and bad sending Jews, gypsies, and homosexuals to concentration camps and killing millions of them and taking France and other countries. They would've been some what successful with taking most Europe if they didn't try to stir up the neutral United States. Bad idea and stupid alliance with Japan. But anyway, they lost. Good comparison.
Paradise Lost Conclusion
Well, big spoiler alert: Eve ate the fruit. Oops. But I guess we all kinda saw that one coming. So the devil went down to paradise, to ruin mankind and whatnot. You would think that the new earth would have a better security system. And who knew that satan had the #transformationtuesday disguise trick. Not me. I do not even know if one of the X men has that super power. I think one of the bad guys does, she was a little blue alien assassin thing. Pretty cool. That would be a fun super power. And what kind of archangel can't tell the difference between the freaking devil, and a little baby angel cherub? There was a line from the Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr., "No girl wants to marry a doctor that can't tell if a man is dead or not!" I hope that Uriel got some kind of official reprimand from an authority figure. That little mix up probably initiated several new reforms about who gets let into the New Earth and the screening process for security guards. So blah blah blah, Satan hops the fence and climbs a tree. It just now occurred to me that Snow White could be some kind of parallel to the fall and salvation. She's all innocent in the forest with her friendly dwarfs, shes tempted by the evil witch or whatever, eats the apple, side note: what kind of idiot eats food from creepy strangers in the woods? She deserved to fall into a deep deep sleep or die or whatever happened. Anyways, eats the apple, falls asleep, random prince with no character traits except handsome and prince comes to save her. And why did the evil witch try to kill her anyway? She was jealous. So maybe the whole fall was based on a trick from the green eyed monster. Anyways Caleb, it's been real. Thanks for teaching and being cool and stuff. Contrary to popular belief, students do want to learn and be challenged and stuff. I've felt somewhat insulted this year by my teachers because I know what I'm capable of and I want people to expect me to be smart and do well and not just expect me to shuffle onto college in pursuit of my MRS. But you've been a really good teacher, so keep on trucking, do your thing, and whatever else. Congratulations.

I'm pretty sure it's really bad that I haven't understood one book. Maybe it's Milton's use of intelligent words on steroids or maybe it's my lack of comprehension. To be completely honest I think it's the first one. If I could get like a "Paradise Lost: For Dummies" book my life would pretty much be complete. Anyway, back to the real reason of why I'm typing this. Can anyone explain to me what the devil's true motive is? Like why does he insist on looking stupid. He's already been cast to eternal damnation and now he wants to make sure we are too? I'm preyyu sure he got his wires crossed somewhre in his making, but then again who am I to say that he did because God makes no mistakes... and since God knows everything why did He create satan in the first place. Like if you already know somebody is going to betray you, why put up with them, or even create their existence? I just don't get it; it's probably not for me to get anyway. I don't know if I would consider man's little incident with satan the actual first disobedience because it didn't really have an impact on the rest of the lives to come. Usually insignifcant things get looked over and in this case, i think it was kind of insignificant.
Hey,
I dont see any problem in not understanding these books without help. I like to think of myself as a pretty good reader and I had to read it all like four or five times to get anything at all out of it. I think that the massive difference in the structure of language then and now. Plus poetry is always pretty difficult to interpret. And whoah, its like my night for connections to outside things. You wanted to know why God would have created Satan if he knew it would bring the fall of man. I relate this to the movie V for Vendetta. V must do things that he knows will hurt Evie(?) in order for her to overcome her fears and see the world through experienced eyes. So he puts her in the fake prison to teach her how it feels to truly have nothing to lose. So must God introduce us to Sin for us to truly understand the glory of heaven when we reach it. Without a world of despair to compare the glory of heaven to, we will never be able to fully appreciate it. This may seem like some sort of a sick game, but there a lot of things that require a bad experience to achieve a good outcome. And on that note of me blowing my own mind with a connection, Im going to bed.

So like penguins are amazing and they should totally rule the world. I mean like "Hello!" who wouldn't want a penguin president? I sure would. No, but seriously, I'm only writing this because I don't want a zero for it. So how's life treating you? Well, I hope. You should totally invite me to your wedding. I know you're gonna miss me and your reception would be banging with me leading the soul train line. I promise you, you would have TONS of fun; then I would catch the bouque and have all those females fooled. Okay now I'm just being really weird and I'm rambling a lot. But wasn't you who said that this didn't have to be a legit reader's response? So here you go, my version of a non-legit reader response. I think I nailed it. Have a rinocking, redunkulous tuesday (: (I through in a little bit of Guaponese for you)

(view changes)...Your question on what man was like in the in-between stage is an inquiring question. Like maybe Adam was like a manikin and it was just his body until God chose to breath life into him. Which also brings up the question, why was Adam mentioned before he was really even relevant to the story. Which can also bring up another question, why would God make Adam to be alone at first, but make all the animals to have a mate. There's a lot of things that were given away in the first three chapters of the Bible before it was actually explained. But then again who are we to question God and His motive, we are only mortal? God is the Almighty, to even grasp a concept or understanding would be completely impossible because we can't tell the future and we can't revisit the past. To be capable of something like would be utterly preposterous; that's like us trying to be God. There's no possible way that we could even control 1/16 of all the things He does simultaneously. He's amazing in more ways than one and the only way we can capture it all is to love, praise, obey and believe.

Reader Response 4 for 3/21/13
Ok, so im not sure if this has to be on the topic its supposed to be. I know the fifth one can be random, but Im might be the only one going back this far. But, while reading other peoples responses, i made a cool connection to Paradise Lost. When the Demons are all plotting to tempt Adam and Eve, It reminds me of the Screwtape Letters. I dont think very many people view temptation to sin as an active effort of the Devil or demons or anything. I think this is a pretty interesting concept, and I think one that would help people be more active in avoiding Sin. Thats pretty much the best I can do to connect to the actual story, considering I had trouble with it the first time around, when i had read it recently. But looking back on the discussions, they were pretty cool. I feel like I got way more out of it than I would by just reading the book. It was cool to see how broad peoples thoughts are, in a class that statistically probably isnt a very broad demographic. So im not really sure if this is 250 words, but I hope its close enough.
Reader Response 5 for 3/27/13
So this gets to be the random response. So im going to use it to rant on Senior Project. I feel like the general idea is pretty decent, bit its so poorly executed its probably not worth it. I did mine on backpacking, and I learned some about that, so thats cool. But, I dont think when im in the real world and have to give a legit presentation that Ill have a template to build it out of, and like six months to put it together. All of the parts besides the paper were so templated and structured that It wasnt so much a project of my own but just this set of steps that I got completion grades for. So I think it should be way more open to whatever the student does. Also, If this is to prepare us for the business world I think it would probably be better to do it groups, I think that would probably be more realistic. Although, that would have completely ruined my project.

Have a rinocking, redunkulous tuesday (: (I through in a little bit of Guaponese for you)
P.S. I winill miniss you... (google guaponese and you'll be finine) Kbye(:

Whats up brook. Gotta love milton dont ya. It is really interesting to me how Milton is giving us all this background history and its all so new. It makes me wonder where he got it from and maybe that he made it all up. Well that will definitely give something for mr alexander to talk about tomorrow. But if he didnt make it up what sources did he get it all from? I dont recall any books of the bible talking about satan and his demons... maybe mr alexander can shed some light on this subject for me. Another subject that we might need to talk about more is when eve went and looked in the lake and adam had to pull her away. I mean, what the heck! Was the first woman that conceited? Its crazy to think about because of course then you have to get into the whole thing wether she was conceited or not and whether or not "conceited" was actually conceited yet and because the world was perfect at that time then she cant possibly have been conceited because being conceited is a sin. Or is it?

So i was very disappointed when i saw that i had a 0 in the grade book for this response but its ok because now i am making it up. i thought the idea about making our own plate to resemble innocence and experience was a great end of the year project. i like writing poems so this project was actually fun for me. i think that instead of just teaching what the difference is between innocence and experience is and making us learn the material through poetry and with our little groups was a better way of teaching. not always is it better but it helped us there. you are a very good teacher Mr. Alexander and know what your talking about. this english is just not very fun. expecially learning about Milton. that was a drag for many people in our class because it was multiple questions that couldnt be answered and our class decides to sit there and try to answer them by arguing. it was fun overall and a good experience for you. im glad we got you as our student teacher and not someone else. i hope you do great even though you are going to pville. they will all love you. and with your "girlfriend"... have an AMAZING wedding!!!!!!
